W. Va. Federal Jury Awards $1.25 Million to Plaintiffs in Pradaxa Blood Thinner Case

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. — A West Virginia federal jury has awarded $1.25 million to the family of a deceased woman, finding that Boehringer Ingelheim fraudulently misrepresented the risks of its blood thinner Pradaxa, causing her to suffer gastrointestinal bleeding.

In the Oct. 18 verdict, the U.S. District Court for the District of West Virginia jury found for the plaintiffs on their fraudulent misrepresentation claim and determined that Pradaxa proximately caused Betty Knight’s injuries, but not her death. The jury also found that, absent BIPI’s wrongful conduct, Knight would not have taken the blood thinner.
