Interim Plan Aimed at Stopping Groundwater Contamination from Leaving BASF Site Approved by EPA




WASHINGTON, D.C. –– The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved an interim plan aimed at stopping groundwater contamination from exiting a BASF site in Michigan, saying that it is reviewing the cleanup plan “in stages.”

In a Dec. 9 announcement, the EPA explained that the groundwater remediation under the Comprehensive Groundwater Interim Measure Plan will “consist of perimeter barriers, a groundwater collection and extraction system and an on-site water treatment facility.”

The site in question is the BASF North Works site in Wyandotte, Mich., which occupies approximately 230 acres of land boarding the Detroit River, the EPA said.
