JPML Sends COVID-19 Insurance Cases Against Society Insurance to Northern District of Illinois

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has opted to create just one insurer-specific multidistrict litigation docket for COVID-19 insurance disputes against Society Insurance Company, explaining that the company is a regional carrier that used standard forms.

In the Oct. 2 order, the JPML elaborated that the claims will involve the interpretation of common policy language and “the actions therefore will require an assessment of whether COVID-19 caused any direct physical loss of or to property, and whether any of Society ‘s policy exclusions apply to preclude plaintiffs’ claims.”
