Md. Federal Judge Dismisses Take-Home COVID-19 Exposure Case Against Airline

BALTIMORE — A Maryland federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Southwest Airlines by a flight attendant who says she contracted COVID-19 during a training session and gave it to her husband who later died from the virus, ruling that it would “open the floodgates” to “expansive new classes of third-party plaintiffs.”

However, in the June 23 order, Judge Stephanie Gallagher of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland concluded that Southwest owed no duty to the plaintiff’s husband, but allowed her the opportunity to plead additional facts to satisfy Maryland’s third-party duty jurisprudence.
