Reinsurance Dispute Between Seaton, Yosemite Sent to Mediation in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A Rhode Island federal judge has sent to mediation a reinsurance dispute between Seaton Insurance Co. and Yosemite Insurance Co., which involves an underlying settlement of asbestos and pollution losses.

According to the July 27 order, Judge Patricia A. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island will oversee the settlement conference.

Yosemite had issued Seaton's predecessor, Unigard Mutual Insurance Co., eight facultative reinsurance treaties covering excess umbrella liability policies issued by Unigard to Air Products and Chemicals Inc., Champion International Corp., El Paso Natural Gas Co., Royal Industries Inc., Medical Society for …
