PHH, Atrium Re Ordered to Comply with Discovery Requests in Captive Reinsurance Case

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - PHH Corp. and Atrium Reinsurance Co. must produce certain Consumer Financial Protection Bureau documents in a class action accusing them of entering into fraudulent captive reinsurance arrangements, a California federal magistrate judge has ordered.

On Feb. 22, U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara A. McAuliffe of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California ruled that the documents, produced to the CFPB in connection with its ongoing investigation of PHH, are relevant to the plaintiffs’ claims.
