Judge Confirms Arbitration Award; Finds No Manifest Disregard

HARRISBURG, Pa. - A federal judge has confirmed an arbitration award stating that the liquidator of American Integrity Insurance Co. cannot recover $8.9 million in billings from Cologne Reinsurance (Barbados) Ltd. that were submitted pursuant to the parties' coinsurance and stop-loss agreements. Ario v. Cologne Reinsurance (Barbados) Ltd., No 98-0678 (M.D. Pa.).

On Nov. 13, Judge William W. Caldwell of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania rejected the liquidator's claims that the arbitrators manifestly disregarded the law or that their partiality was evident.
