Benzene-Containing Rubber Products Eyed in New Benzene Complaints

AKRON, Ohio -- Two benzene lawsuits have been filed recently in Ohio state court, both alleging that benzene-containing products present during the production of rubber products at separate facilities caused both plaintiffs to develop acute myelogenous leukemia. Paonessa v. Goodrich Corp., et al., No. 2007-11-8194; Mallory v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., No. 2007-11-8033 (Ohio Ct. Comm. Pls., Summit Cty.).

The complaints, which were filed Nov. 16 and 26 in the Ohio Court of Common Pleas for Summit County, contend that work with benzene- and aromatic hydrocarbon-containing products at Goodyear Tire and Goodrich Corp. facilities caused the injuries.
