Security Guard Files Benzene, Hydrogen Sulfide Suit Against Exxon Mobil, Says Exposure Led to Stillborn Birth of Child

NEW ORLEANS –– A security guard has filed a benzene lawsuit against Exxon Mobil Corp., and Chalmette Refining LLC, contending that her assignment to the defendants’ refinery exposed her to benzene and ultimately resulted in the stillborn birth of her daughter.

In the March 10 complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, the plaintiff says that she was exposed to both benzene and hydrogen sulfide on a regular basis and from a leak that occurred only days before it was discovered that her fetus had died.
