Jury Awards $2.3 Million in San Francisco Asbestos Case

SAN FRANCISCO - A San Francisco jury has awarded more than $2.3 million to a man who developed asbestosis after working for nearly 15 years at a Johns-Manville Transite plant. Laguna v. Calaveras Asbestos, Ltd., No. n/a (Calif. Super. Ct., San Francisco Cty.).
The Superior Court jury issued its verdict Dec. 21, awarding Guadalupe Laguna and his wife, Amalia, $2,303,751 in compensatory damages related to his occupational asbestos exposure.
Guadalupe Laguna had alleged that exposure to asbestos supplied by Calaveras Asbestos Ltd. to the Johns-Manville plant where he worked caused him to develop asbestosis and asbestos-related pleural disease.
