OLYMPIA, Wash. -- An amici group has filed a brief in a dispute over whether manufactures of valves and pumps owe a duty when component parts, such as asbestos, are later incorporated into their products. Braaten v. Buffalo Pumps, Inc., et al., No. 80251-3 (Wash. Sup. Ct.).
On Jan. 9, the Washington Supreme Court granted the petition for review of a decision in which the amici contend that the Court of Appeals ignored important differences between non-hazardous pumps and valves and the asbestos sold by others when it reversed a summary judgment award to four defendants.
