Plaintiff with Mesothelioma to Receive $2.8 Million




AUSTIN, Texas - Parties in a Texas mesothelioma case involving two friction defendants and the manufacturer of an asbestos-containing joint compound have settled the case for more than $2.8 million. Skinner v. Burns International Services Corp., et al., No. 99-01868 (Texas Dist. Ct., Travis Co.).

The Oct. 23 settlement came just before arguments were to begin in a case filed in Travis County District Court by Mervyn Skinner. Skinner was diagnosed with mesothelioma in December 1998 and later alleged that he developed the disease after repeated exposure to asbestos during his 45-year tenure at Shearer Contractors and at home.
