Asbestos Bill Debate Could Happen as Soon as Feb. 6

WASHINGTON -- The Stanford Washington Research Group said on Jan. 18 that the FAIR Act could be up for debate in the U.S. Senate as soon as Feb. 6.

The group cited sources indicating that Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), the Senate Majority Leader, said that he had enough votes to bring the proposed asbestos legislation to the Senate floor.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted the Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act (S. 852) out of committee in May 2005 with a 13-5 vote.
