Sen. Kerry: Asbestos Bill 'Has Many Problems'

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator and former Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry has written Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., asking him to reconsider an earlier pledge that he intends to bring the FAIR Act to the Senate floor in January.
According to a Dec. 5 correspondence from Sen. Kerry, the FAIR Act posits a noble goal in compensating victims of asbestos exposure, while easing the burden on the country's judicial system. However, S.852, which would create a $140 billion fund to pay pending and future asbestos claims, is anything but fair, the senator writes.
