NEW YORK -- A class action lawsuit filed in federal court accuses companies overseeing the World Trade Center disaster of failing to provide workers with the proper respiratory equipment, effectively exposing them to a number of toxic chemicals, including asbestos. Divirgilio, et al. v. Silverstein Properties, et al., No.n/a (S.D. N.Y.).

The lawsuit, filed Sept. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleges that many of the workers involved in the post-Sept. 11, 2001, clean up are now at high risk for mesothelioma, because of the high levels of asbestos at the work site.
