Calif. Court Affirms Award of Summary Judgment to Asbestos Defendant

LOS ANGELES –– A California appellate court has affirmed an award of summary judgment entered in favor of Ameron International Corp., saying that the decedent’s separate alleged exposure to pipe brought home from his place of employment does not create a separate injury outside of workers’ compensation coverage.

In the Sept. 17 opinion, the California Second District Court of Appeal agreed with the trial court’s reasoning that the decedent would not have come into contact with the asbestos-containing materials at his home were it not for his employment.
