3M Appeals $150 Million Verdict to Mississippi Supreme Court

JACKSON, Miss. - A defendant in the landmark $150 million asbestos verdict handed up last year in Holmes County, Mississippi, is appealing the verdict to the state Supreme Court. 3M Company v. Simeon Johnson, No. 2002-TS-01651 (Miss. Sup. Ct.).

A notice of appeal was filed Aug. 30 by defendant 3M Co., which along with ACandS and Dresser Industries was assessed the majority of liability in the October 2001 verdict. The six plaintiffs who filed the case alleged they were suffering from asbestosis as a result of their exposure to asbestos at several Mississippi locations during the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
