Union Carbide Not Obligated to Contribute to Fund that Covered Mesothelioma Claims, Jury Finds




MINNEAPOLIS - A federal jury in Minnesota has returned a verdict for asbestos defendant Union Carbide after finding it did not have a duty to contribute to a fund used to compensate workers injured by asbestos while working at another company's ceiling tile manufacturing plant. Conwed Corp. v. Union Carbide Corp., No. 5:92cv88 (D. Minn.).

The jury returned its verdict Sept. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, where the subrogation claim filed by Conwed Corp. had been pending since 1992.
