SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Illinois Supreme Court has denied a motion for leave to file an amici curiae brief that supports defendants involved in a take-home exposure dispute, effectively denying several asbestos defendants the opportunity to weigh in on the matter. Simpkins, et al. v. CSX Transportation, et al., No. 110662 (Ill. Sup. Ct.).

In a one-page letter sent March 3, the state's high court notified counsel that it was denying the petition filed by Owens-Illinois Inc., Caterpillar Inc., CertainTeed Corp., Deere & Co., The Dow Chemical Corp., ExxonMobil Corp., General Electric Corp., Reynolds Metal Co., and Union Carbide.
