ST. LOUIS — A Missouri federal judge has allowed the plaintiff in a hip replacement case to amend his petition to allege the correct mechanism of failure in the device, concluding that good cause for amendment was shown.

In a Jan. 17 order, Judge Stephen Clark of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri noted the plaintiffs’ attorneys initially, incorrectly, believed the device’s neck was fractured.

Curtis Mahnken filed a petition on Nov. 14, 2018, in the St. Louis Circuit Court, alleging he was implanted with a defective hip replacement system. He alleged the device failed, …
