Texas Federal Judge Issues Judgments Following $246.9 Million Pinnacle Hip Verdicts

DALLAS — A Texas federal judge has issued judgments finalizing verdicts totaling $246,998,791.22 in compensatory and punitive damages awarded to 10 plaintiffs at the conclusion of the fourth bellwether DePuy Pinnacle hip implant case.

The Aug. 29 judgments, signed by Judge Ed Kinkeade of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, allow DePuy to file its planned appeal of the verdicts.

The Pinnacle metal-on-metal device was used to replace diseased hip joints and was intended to provide pain-free natural motion over a longer period of time than other hip-replacement devices. Plaintiffs, however, claimed the Pinnacle Devices have …
