Claims Against Co-Designer of M2a Hip Implant Dismissed for Lack of Jurisdiction

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — An Indiana federal judge has dismissed claims against a Florida doctor who allegedly helped design Biomet’s M2a metal-on-metal hip replacement device, ruling that the plaintiff failed to provide evidence supporting personal jurisdiction.

On May 3, Judge Robert L. Miller of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana also dismissed the doctor’s Florida-based company from the lawsuit.

Minnesota resident Ronald McLevis sued Biomet Inc., Dr. John Cuckler, and his company Alabama Medical Consultants Inc. (AMC), alleging his Biomet M2a metal-on-metal hip replacement device, which was implanted on May 9, 2005, was defective.
