Okla. Man Sues Makers of Encore Metal-On-Metal Hip System, Says Device Was Defectively Designed, Manufactured

SAN DIEGO — An Oklahoma man has sued the manufacturers of the Encore metal-on-metal hip system, contending that he was forced to undergo two revision surgeries as a result of the device’s defective design and manufacture.

The Dec. 8 complaint, filed in the California Superior Court for San Diego County, said the metal-on-metal design of the Encore hip implant caused metal shavings to be released into the tissue surrounding the hip, resulting in serious injury and pain.

DJO LLC, Encore Medical L.P. and Encore Orthopedics Inc. are named as defendants in the suit.
