South Carolina MDL Sought for Sorin 3T Heater-Cooler System Infection Cases

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A petition has been filed seeking to establish a centralized MDL docket for more than a dozen pending lawsuits by heart surgery patients who claim they developed serious post-surgical infections caused by bacteria dispersed from the Sorin 3T Heater-Cooler System.

The Jan. 26 filing asks the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate the cases before a single judge in South Carolina federal court where 10 of the 15 cases currently on file throughout the country are pending.

Plaintiffs who filed the petition contend the Sorin 3T Heater-Cooler, a device used to regulate a patient’s blood temperature …
