Defendants File Post-Trial Motions in Talcum Powder Case That Ended in $70 Million Verdict




ST. LOUIS –– Johnson & Johnson and Imerys Talc America has filed a number of post-trial motions in a talcum powder lawsuit, asking the court for a new trial or, in the alternative, to reduce the “unconstitutionally excessive punitive damage award,” which totaled $67.5 million, the majority of which was entered against Johnson & Johnson.

In a number of motions filed in the Missouri Circuit Court for St. Louis City, the defendants asked the court for judgment notwithstanding the verdict, for a new trial, remittitur of compensatory and punitive damages, and for a credit against the punitive damage award.
