Barbershop May Have Limited Coverage for COVID-19 Losses, Texas Federal Judge Rules

AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas federal judge has denied Twin City Fire Insurance Co.’s bid to dismiss a barbershop’s COVID-19 business interruption insurance action, finding that limited coverage may be available under the policy’s Virus Endorsement.

In a Nov. 4 order, Senior Judge James R. Nowlin of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas noted that the endorsement allows for up to 30 days of coverage for business interruption if “loss or damage to property caused by virus” causes a suspension of operations and if “Time Element Coverage applies.”
