Law Firm Sues Insurance Co. for Refusing to Cover Business Losses Related to Superstorm Sandy

NEW YORK — A law firm denied access to its offices for the week following Superstorm Sandy is seeking $250,000 from an insurance carrier that rejected the firm’s claim for business interruption coverage based on a determination that the alleged losses were flood-related.

In a lawsuit filed in New York Supreme Court and removed to federal court April 2, Newman Myers Kreins Gross Harris P.C. says that Great Northern Insurance Co.’s decision to deny the claim is wrong because the loss was caused not by flood, but by a lack of utilities that rendered the office inoperable.
