SEATTLE — A Washington federal judge has allowed a self-insurance association to file an amended complaint against a reinsurer in a lawsuit demanding $8.9 million in reinsurance for the association’s settlement of police misconduct and excessive force claims brought against two cities.

On Nov. 12, Judge Richard A. Jones of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington concluded that the association’s motion to add claims for bad faith and violation of the Washington Insurance Fair Conduct Act (IFCA) was not untimely.
