Munich Re Moves to Strike Risk Management Pool’s Affirmative Defenses in Reinsurance Case

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Munich Reinsurance America Inc. has moved to strike affirmative defenses asserted by a Florida risk management pool in a dispute over whether the reinsurer must contribute toward a $750,000 settlement of a lawsuit brought against a Florida city.
In a May 9 motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Munich contends that the affirmative defenses, which the risk management pool filed in response to its counterclaim for declaratory judgment, are vague, conclusory and confusing.
