Wis. Judge Grants Wausau Summary Judgment in Reinsurance Case; Denies OneBeacon’s Motion to Stay

MADISON, Wis. — A Wisconsin federal judge has granted Employers Insurance Company of Wausau summary judgment on its claim against OneBeacon Insurance Co. for nearly $600,000 in reinsurance proceeds for underlying asbestos claims, finding no issue of fact as to whether the sum is due.

Judge Barbara B. Crabb of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin denied OneBeacon’s motion to stay the case in light of a pending arbitration between the parties arising from the same reinsurance certificates. The judge found OneBeacon failed to establish a “pressing need” for such a stay.
