Judge Overturns Verdict; Finds No Evidence of MGA Agreement

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - An Alabama federal judge has thrown out a verdict rendered in favor of Alabama Municipal Insurance Corp., finding no evidentiary basis to support the jury's finding that a managing general agent contract existed between AMIC and Alliant Insurance Services Inc. Alabama Municipal Insurance Corp. v. Alliant Insurance Services Inc., No. 2:09-928 (M.D. Ala.).

On Jan. 9, Chief Judge W. Keith Watkins further ruled that AMIC failed to prove that it was harmed by Alliant's alleged failure to timely transmit AMIC's reinsurance losses, noting that the reinsurer did not deny payment on the basis of untimeliness.
