FDA Announces Voluntary Recall of 7 Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Products that Showed ‘Elevated’ Benzene Levels




WASHINGTON, D.C. –– A “limited” number of products containing benzoyl peroxide have been voluntarily recalled after independent FDA tests showed elevated levels of benzene, according to a recent alert from the federal agency.

In a March 11 notice, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration alerted the public and industry to recent results of testing in 95 acne products containing benzoyl peroxide but noted that more than 90 percent of the products it tested had “undetectable or extremely low levels of benzene.”
