Louisiana Benzene Parties Resolve Claims, Case Dismissed

NEW ORLEANS – Parties remaining in a Louisiana benzene case have resolved their claims, prompting the District Court overseeing the case to enter an order of dismissal.

In the Nov. 14 dismissal order, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana dismissed the case without prejudice.

Eric and Carolyn Wright claimed in their lawsuit that Eric's work as a mechanic for Shell Offshore Inc. on a number of vessels from 1976 to 1993 required him to work with benzene-containing chemicals and solvents. As a result of the exposure, Wright allegedly developed acute myelogenous leukemia.
