Jury Awards $1.7 Million for Asbestos-Related Esophageal Cancer Claim




PHILADELPHIA- A jury in Pennsylvania has ordered an asbestos supplier to pay $1.7 million to the estate of a former CertainTeed employee who died from esophageal cancer. Jackson v. Bell Asbestos Mines, et al., No. 0007-04475 (Pa. Comm. Pls., Philadelphia Cty.).

The Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas returned the verdict against Bell Asbestos Mines on Nov. 21 after deliberating just 35 minutes at the conclusion of a one-week trial. Plaintiff Ronald Jackson had alleged that while working at CertainTeed from 1969 to 1981, he was exposed to asbestos supplied by Bell Asbestos Mines.
