Ill. Governor Signs off on Bill Precluding Asbestos Claims from Statute of Repose Limitations Period

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –– The Governor of Illinois has signed off on an amendment that will preclude the enforcement of the statute of repose limitations period in asbestos cases.

Gov. Pat Quinn (D) signed the amendment into law on Dec. 19.

According to the text of the amendment, asbestos claims will no longer be subject to subsection b of the state’s statute of repose, which enforces a 10-year limitations period on claims arising out the construction of an improvement to real property.
