SACRAMENTO, Calif. –– The governor of California has signed a bill that will limit depositions taken in civil cases to seven hours of total testimony.

On Sept. 17, California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. (D) signed Assembly Bill No. 1875, which also outlines specified circumstances in which depositions may be permitted to exceed the seven-hour limit.

The bill passed the California Senate on Aug. 27 on a 24-14 vote. In February, Assemblyman Mike Gatto of the 43rd District introduced the bill, which underwent five amendments before it was presented to the governor to be signed into law.
