Jury Awards $2.3 Million, Allocates 2 Percent Liability to Defendant

SAN FRANCISCO -- A California jury has awarded $2.3 million to a former marine machinist's family in a U.S. Navy asbestos case, assessing 2 percent liability to remaining defendant John Crane, sources told HarrisMartin. Galassi, et al. v. A.W. Chesterton Co., et al., No. CGC-04-436144 (Calif. Super. Ct., San Francisco Cty.).

The San Francisco County Superior Court jury reached the Sept. 22 verdict after a two-week trial and more than two days of deliberation.

The trial was presided over by Judge Gail Dekreon, in which John Crane was the sole remaining defendant, sources said.
