David's practice focuses on litigation management, trial and litigation strategies in multi-state and in multi-plaintiff litigation; regulatory, legislative and public communications issues as strategic and trial counsel.

David is co-head of the firm's National Business Tort and Product Liability Group. He regularly advises the management of public companies, their boards and general counsel in connection with complex litigation, strategic reviews of litigation alternatives and serves as the co-chair of the firm's Advisory Committee on Alternative Billing Arrangements. David is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court and Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eleventh U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal.

Motley Rice co-founding member Joe Rice is recognized as a skillful and innovative negotiator of complex litigation settlements. As lead private counsel for 26 jurisdictions, including numerous State Attorneys General, he played a central role in crafting the landmark Master Settlement Agreement, the largest civil settlement in U.S. history, in which the tobacco industry agreed to reimburse states for smoking-related health costs. Over the past two decades, Joe has also been recognized for his role in structuring some of the most significant resolutions of asbestos liabilities on behalf of victims injured by asbestos-related products.
